Account & Subscription

Do I need an account to use the App?

The free Bluetooth dashboard and on-device features require no account, and none is created on first launch. An anonymous account is created only when you actively purchase or restore a subscription, connect Tesla Fleet API, or enable another cloud feature — no name, email, or password needed.

What is free and what is paid?

The live dashboard, navigation with speed-camera alerts, and the Sentry video manager are completely free. Charging Butler (automatic charging records, tariff estimates, battery health, iCloud sync) is a subscription; the Light Show editor is a one-time purchase, independent of the subscription. Actual prices are shown on the App Store checkout screen.

I have an offer code. How do I use it?

Open the redemption link that came with the code — it takes you to the App Store to redeem. Or open the App Store on your iPhone → your profile picture (top right) → "Redeem Gift Card or Code". After redeeming, tap "Restore Purchases" in the App to unlock. There is currently no place to enter a code inside the App; please use the App Store.

I purchased but the feature didn't unlock

First make sure the device is online (subscription validation requires a network connection), then tap "Restore Purchases" on the App's paywall screen. If it still doesn't unlock, email us with a screenshot of your receipt and the App version number.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscription billing is managed by Apple. Cancel under Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Deleting your account inside the App does not cancel the subscription — the two are handled separately.

Does the subscription support Family Sharing? Can I use it on both iPhone and iPad?

The subscription is tied to your Apple Account, so any iPhone or iPad signed in with the same Apple Account can use it — tap "Restore Purchases" on the other device. The subscription does not support Family Sharing.

Will my data follow me to a new phone?

Some device settings and preferences sync through your own iCloud account, provided both devices are signed into the same iCloud with iCloud Drive enabled. Subscription entitlement is tied to your Apple Account — tap "Restore Purchases" on the new device. Bluetooth key pairing is per device, so you will need to pair once more on the new phone.

Bluetooth Live Dashboard

Will it work with my car?

The live dashboard reads vehicle status through the car's Bluetooth phone-key channel, so the vehicle must support the "Phone Key" feature.

Quickest check: if you can see a "Phone Key" option under the car's Locks settings, you're supported.

Known unsupported vehicles:

  • Model S / Model X built before the 2021 refresh (roughly 2015–2020). These cars have only key fobs and key cards — there is no Bluetooth key channel, and it cannot be added by a software update or retrofit. Phone Key arrived on S/X with the 2021 refresh.

If your vehicle is unsupported, the Bluetooth live dashboard will not work, but these features are unaffected: navigation with speed-camera alerts, Sentry video manager, and the Light Show editor.

If you purchased or subscribed specifically for the Bluetooth dashboard, you can request a refund from Apple under Settings → your Apple Account → Purchase History → Report a Problem.

How do I pair the first time?

Pairing is a one-time step: sit in the car, hold your NFC key card to the console reader as the App instructs, then confirm on the vehicle's touchscreen. This is the vehicle's standard procedure for establishing an encrypted connection. The App only reads vehicle status — it never sends control commands (no unlock, trunk, climate, or similar functions).

Does the Bluetooth dashboard need internet?

No. The live dashboard talks to your vehicle directly over Bluetooth, so it works in underground parking, mountain roads, and other offline environments. Only route planning and traffic, cloud charging records, subscription validation, and iCloud sync require a network.

The App can't find my vehicle

Check in order: Bluetooth is enabled on your iPhone; EVStudio has Bluetooth permission in system settings; you and the phone are near the vehicle (Bluetooth range is a few metres); the vehicle is not in deep sleep. If the car was parked only moments ago and still won't connect, wait a little and try again.

The speed reading goes blank for a few seconds

This happens when the vehicle briefly stops responding with speed data. The App backs off automatically and recovers within seconds — no reconnection needed. If it stays blank for more than a minute, close and reopen the dashboard screen.

Nothing shows in the Dynamic Island or on the Lock Screen

Go to iPhone Settings → EVStudio and make sure "Live Activities" is enabled, then enable the matching option under the App's Settings → Dynamic Island & Notifications. The Dynamic Island requires a device that has one; the Lock Screen widget works on every iPhone that supports Live Activities.

Where does the speed-camera data come from? Which regions are covered?

Camera locations come from government open data, refined with OpenStreetMap road data for tunnels and average-speed sections (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). Coverage is currently Taiwan only. The data ships with App updates; if you spot a wrong or missing location, email us the road section and direction.

Does navigation need internet? What's the difference between free and subscription?

Route planning needs a network. Basic navigation and speed-camera alerts are free; subscribers get traffic-aware routing with congestion colouring. Without a subscription — or if the traffic service is temporarily unavailable — the App falls back to standard routes and navigation continues uninterrupted.

How early do alerts fire? Will it be noisy?

Alert distance scales with your current speed — the faster you go, the earlier the warning. When you are clearly below the section's speed limit, alerts are suppressed so it doesn't keep chiming in city traffic. Both fixed cameras and average-speed sections are covered.

Charging Butler

What do I need to enable automatic charging records?

Two one-time steps: Connect your Tesla account in the App — this opens Tesla's official authorization page; the App never sees your password. Add the App's virtual key to your vehicle — wake the car by glancing at it in the Tesla app, then follow the App's prompt to approve; the owner account taps "Approve" once in the Tesla app. From then on, every charge is recorded automatically without opening the App.

I just started charging and the curve is empty

Charging data streams back through the cloud, so the curve usually takes a few minutes to appear after charging begins — this is normal. If there is still no record after the session ends, check that the virtual key is still on the vehicle (see next question) and that your phone had a network connection at the time.

Automatic charging records suddenly stopped

The most common cause is removing EVStudio under "Manage third-party access" in the Tesla app or from the vehicle's key list — this also removes the virtual key, so cloud data stops arriving. Re-authorize under the App's Settings → Tesla Account, then run "Add Virtual Key" again. Changing vehicle or account also requires repeating both steps.

How is the electricity cost estimated?

Using Taiwan's time-of-use tariff periods and the plan you select in the App. It is an estimate only — your utility bill is authoritative. Fees at Superchargers and third-party stations are whatever the station charges.

Sentry Video Manager

How do I import footage?

Plug the car's USB drive into your iPhone (or copy the TeslaCam folder to iCloud Drive first), then pick the TeslaCam folder from Files inside the App. The App organises clips by event, plays all six cameras in sync, and pins events on a map. ZIP files exported by the official tool can also be imported.

"Encrypted video detected" — it won't play

Vehicle firmware 2026.20 and later encrypts dashcam and Sentry footage, and encrypted clips cannot be played directly. Three ways to handle it:

  • Fastest: plug the USB back into the car, select the clip in the car's Dashcam app, and tap the lock icon (bottom right) to decrypt — only the vehicle that recorded it can do this.
  • In the App: follow the prompt to sign in on Tesla's official page to obtain decryption authorization — the App never sees your password, only the decryption key.
  • On a computer: sign in at dashcam.tesla.com with the account that owns the vehicle, decrypt, then import into the App.

To stop encrypting new footage: on the car, Controls → Safety → turn off "Encrypt Dashcam Video" (affects future recordings only).

Is my Sentry footage uploaded?

No. Sentry Manager reads only files or folders you select, and all previewing, editing, and exporting happens locally on the device. Vehicle state read over Bluetooth is likewise processed only on-device and never uploaded.

Light Show Editor

Does the Light Show editor require a subscription?

No — it is a one-time purchase, independent of the Charging Butler subscription, with no further charges for App updates. The editor works offline inside the App: timeline, lights, rhythm, and preview are all done on your phone.

How do I play my show on the car?

Exporting from the App gives you a lightshow.fseq light file plus the matching audio file. Put both in a folder named LightShow at the root of a USB drive, plug it into the car, and pick it under Toybox → Light Show on the touchscreen. The drive must be in a format the vehicle can read (same requirements as a dashcam drive).

Data & Privacy

How do I delete my cloud data?

In the App, go to Settings → Tesla Account → Delete App Account & Cloud Data. This permanently deletes the anonymous account and the developer-held data associated with it, and cannot be undone. Records stored only on your device are not removed by this action — clear them manually or by deleting the App. See Privacy Policy section 6 for details.

What do you do with my data?

Data is used solely to provide the App's features. It is not used for advertising, not used for cross-app tracking, and never sold to third parties. The full list of what is collected, where it is stored, and which third-party services are involved is in the Privacy Policy.
